Rev. Wayne Mort
I greet you in the name of the One who calls us “beloved!” I am excited to join you in worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Batavia First! You must know that I had prayed fervently that our Bishop would allow me to continue to serve under appointment now that I have been moved because of my age, to a Retired Elder status.
My family have been United Methodists, going back several generations. My call to ministry came when I was a young teenager growing up in North Syracuse, NY. That call however, was not answered by me for many years. I chose to study Mechanical Technology at Onondaga Community College and then joined the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY as a machine design draftsman. I enlisted in the US Navy where I served for four years with the SEABEES as an Engineering Aid attached to a Mobile Construction Battalion. I made two difficult deployments to VietNam. Upon returning to Kodak I completed my education at Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After nearly 33 years I took early retirement from Kodak to finally answer God’s unrelenting call to enter the ministry.
I graduated from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School with a MDiv degree and have served as a church pastor in various Districts in our Conference for over the past twenty years. It has been the joy of my life! To proclaim God’s Holy Word and serve Christ’s Holy Church is a sacred privilege and one that I fully immerse myself. I come to Batavia First UMC full of energy and excitement and pray that we can all grow our faith together and fully answer God’s call that Christ has placed on each of our lives.
On a personal note, I have been married to my wife Sheri, for 52 years, we have 2 married daughters and 4 grandchildren who all live in the Rochester area. I plan to be in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays and either Thursdays or Fridays from 9 am to noon. Should you need to contact me email is: Wayneamort@aol.com, cell is (716) 310-2053, Parsonage is (716) 805-7271. Thank you!
I can’t wait to see you in church this Sunday!
